The Old Ways Of Advertising

Posted by Doug Greenwald Categories: Blogs

The ways of marketing our forever changing. What worked a year ago may not work today. The frontier of getting your message out to the right demographic of people requires more than just spending money. It requires a strategy, a new channel for your message, and most importantly a way to track results. Social media when used under the precision of a professional is a great and effective way to get your message across and brand your business. After all it took radio 38 years to reach 50 million users. It took TV 13 years to reach 50 million users and it took Facebook only 9 months to add more than a 100 million users.  Social media allows you as a business owner to educate your audience and specifically tailor and target your message to each individualized person who is on the web. Social media marketing has the ability to allow you to reach more than 500 million users on Facebook, a wide range of CEO’s on LinkedIn and even celebrities on Twitter. The benefits of using social media marketing allows a business owner like yourself to drive thousands of targeted users to your Facebook Fan Page, be published on hundreds of blogs and evenbe tweeted about by your competition. Whether it’s using a blog to showcase your company’s achievements, or using Twitter for fast, personal customer service, Social Media Marketing has a proven track record in getting you the results you are looking for.  Call me crazy but the old ways of marketing seem to be barely keeping a float. For starters social media marketing is 1/5 the cost of print advertising. Although your message is published in a reliable publication when using print that same content can also now be found online minus the advertisements. Why spend money on radio after all with new satellite radio people can now opt out of  those intrusive advertisements.  Then there is good old fashioned TV but with digital recorders fast forwarding through commercials have almost become second nature. Social media marketing is unique because our online campaigns transcend the web and enter the offline world in order to generate leads and sales. I agree with you whole heatedly. Social Media and Networking Sites are the new billboards, radio advertisements, etc, and cost a fraction of the cost (if any at all) to maintain and use. I have used sites such as Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, GLEE, LiveJournal, Friendster and more to successfully advertise myself as a professional Male Illusionist for hire, and also for my production company Insurrection Theater. I’ve found that it is the fastest, easiest, and cheapest means to drive new business my way.

Hit the nail on the head, regardless of what arena you work in social marketing is a must!

  4. As Doug so aptly pointed out, “The times, they are a changing…” It’s almost mind-boggling to think of the possibilities that now exist to reach your market. Lately I’ve seen social media used to recruit much sought-after skilled employees, marketing ads targeting a specific employee within a company, and keyword specific campaigns.

I don’t have time for the learning curve nor do I have time to stay on top of all the changes that are taking place. I’m glad to find out about this resource.

It’s important to keep in mind the marketing budget. Newspaper ads have come down in price to try to induce more companies to buy space. But if your audience doesn’t read newsprint, the lowest priced ad still won’t affect your audience. ROI, return on investment, is still the name of the game.

IF you can achieve your marketing objectives with Facebook friends and Twitter followers, then your cost is your time, and that is very well spent.

If, however, you need lots of local prospects in a hurry, hard copy ads may still be the way to go. Keep the bottom line in mind, be flexible and make offers to your audience.

  6. Great post, thank you
