Score one for YouTube!
Yesterday, Judge Louis Stanton of the U.S. District Court of New York
dismissed the $1 billion lawsuit from Viacom
against Google and its video-sharing site, claiming that it complies with copyright laws upheld in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act!
Basically, Viacom wanted to be able to patrol YouTube themselves and tell users to take done video content that they owned, because they didn’t think the internet service was doing it properly, and furthermore encouraging its users to continue to violate copyright laws. However, in Stanton’s 30-page ruling, he essentially tells Viacom to eff off and asserts that YouTube is within compliance of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act!
We’re sure there will be an appeal, so YouTube – keep being awesome!
What do U think?? Should Viacom’s suit be dismissed??
